searchpartyuseragent is a built-in Apple LaunchAgent that runs for each signed-in user. It is part of the underlying machinery for Find My and the Find My network. Its work includes location requests involving Apple devices and Find My accessories such as AirTag and AirPods, as well as encrypted beacon keys, pairing, sharing, and state synchronization.

It does not perform all of that work alone. searchpartyuseragent cooperates with searchpartyd, CloudKit, Apple Push services, and other macOS components. Apple has not published a complete division of responsibilities between these processes, so it would be inaccurate to claim that searchpartyuseragent alone handles every location report or every Find My network operation.

The system instance is associated with the LaunchAgent identifier com.apple.icloud.searchpartyuseragent and the executable at /usr/libexec/searchpartyuseragent.

Why it talks to the network

Most network activity from searchpartyuseragent follows a Find My event rather than a continuous transfer. When Find My network is enabled and the Mac detects a Bluetooth beacon from a nearby lost device or accessory, the system may submit an end-to-end encrypted approximate location report to Apple’s Find My or iCloud services.

Communication can also occur when you open Find My or request the location of a device or item. In that case, the system may retrieve encrypted location reports together with relevant device metadata. Pairing or sharing a Find My accessory can trigger another exchange. So can a change to Find My status, Apple Account or Family Sharing state, separation alerts, push notifications, cryptographic keys, or service configuration.

Normal destinations belong to Apple’s Find My and iCloud infrastructure, CloudKit, and Apple Push services. That does not mean every related connection will appear under searchpartyuseragent itself. Some communication is handled through system intermediaries such as apsd and cloudd, and Apple has not documented an exact process-to-endpoint map.

How much traffic is normal
